Fountains
The fountains in Mainz, with over 60 fountains, characterize the cityscape and invite you to take a walk through the city centre. Water, art and history combine here to create special places of relaxation.
Mainz is a city where water is not only present in the form of the Rhine. Numerous fountains, some of them historic, characterize the cityscape. When strolling through downtown Mainz, you can hear it in many places: the sound of rushing water, quiet splashing, cheerful gurgling—the sounds of summer.
A total of 69 wells are operated by the state capital of Mainz, and there are also numerous private wells.
Most of the fountains will continue to operate in 2026, though technical malfunctions and structural defects unfortunately continue to limit the operation of some of them: As a result, the Jubilee Fountain, the small Kaiserstrasse fountains, the Gotthard Fountain, the fountain on Lerchenberg, and the Kästrich Fountain remain out of service for the time being. The Klenk Fountain is currently undergoing repairs following a malfunction of the main pumps. (As of July 27, 2026)
