Energy concept for the Mainz-Lerchenberg district
An energy-efficient neighborhood concept was developed for the Mainz-Lerchenberg district, which has approximately 6,000 residents and 2,800 households, as part of the KfW program "Energy-Efficient Urban Redevelopment" with financial support from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The concept was developed between November 2012 and January 2014 with technical support from the Institute for Housing and the Environment (IWU) (opens in a new tab) in Darmstadt.
The Mainz-Lerchenberg district has around 1,060 residential buildings, 944 of which are single-family and two-family houses, most of which were built when the settlement was established in the late 1960s. As part of the concept development, exemplary renovation proposals were drawn up for the individual types of residential buildings and obstacles to implementation were examined. Possible variants for future heat supply were also analyzed.
The concept is expected to provide impetus for the initiation of renovation processes in the existing building stock. In the first half of 2014, the state capital of Mainz will offer consultations on renovation measures in existing buildings by expert personnel directly on site in the district. Once completed, the concept will also serve as a basis for decision-making by municipal committees on the future heat supply for the district.
The final report was completed on January 20, 2014. It can be viewed and downloaded in the download area (at the bottom of the page).
District forums during the concept development phase
In order to involve the public in the concept development process and to inform them about the concept content and the respective interim results, three district forums were held at the Lerchenberg community center during the concept development phase. All households in the district were invited to the events by mail.
The lively participation of the district's residents demonstrated that there is great interest in the concept and the topics it addresses.
