Book Presentation: 100 Years of the Mainz Court Singers
Wednesday, September 16, 2026, 4:30 p.m.
A century filled with music, tradition, and success.
To mark its 100th anniversary, the history of one of Germany’s best-known and internationally acclaimed men’s choirs is now being documented. Founded on Carnival Sunday in 1926, the Mainzer Hofsänger have shaped German choral music for decades and enjoyed international success—from television appearances in the 1950s, with which they captured the nation’s living rooms, to performances in renowned concert halls. Even today, they continue to thrill audiences around the world—and not
just during Mainz Carnival. Yet the creation of this anniversary publication was initially just a wish, because when the editorial team first came together, the choir didn’t even have its own archive. Instead, much of the material was stored in boxes, housed only provisionally. But while sifting through this collection, true treasures from the history of the Hofsänger were discovered: photographs and original documents, record covers, and awards that shed light on the choir’s founding and offer a glimpse into the soul of the Mainz Hofsänger.
The Mainzer Hofsänger, together with Nünnerich-Asmus Verlag, will offer a brief glimpse behind the scenes and an impression of the making of this anniversary volume at the Scientific City Library.
