There is a defective sewer connection under the entrance path to Mainz Cathedral that urgently needs to be repaired. As filming has revealed, this can only be done using the "open construction" method. This means that the area must be opened up and excavated down to the affected area.

Work will begin on Monday, July 21, 2025, and is expected to last one week—if everything goes according to plan and no further damage comes to light. During this time, visitors to the cathedral will have to take a small detour, which will lead via Liebfrauenplatz/Liebfrauenportal to the entrance on Domstraße/Kreuzgang and will also be signposted.
