Twice a year, its rotating mechanism must be inspected, requiring the Winterhafen Bridge to be closed. While checks are carried out in spring to ensure that the structure and technology have survived the frost unscathed, the main inspection takes place in fall.

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, it will be that time again, which means that the structure connecting the road to the pier on Victor Hugo Embankment will be closed during inspection work.
This work will begin at 6:30 a.m. and should be completed by the afternoon, provided everything goes according to plan and no major defects are found.   
During this time, pedestrians and cyclists will have to take a small detour. Fortunately, this is just as manageable as the duration of the work. This means that anyone who wants to reach the pier should use the street "Am Winterhafen" in the direction of the Mainz Süd railway bridge. At the rowing club, you then turn back.
