Rheinhessen Symbols Idea Contest

Major Ideas Contest Invites Schools, Clubs, Families, Creative Individuals, and Businesses to
Participate

What is typical of Rheinhessen? And what symbol best captures the region’s spirit? That’s exactly what the Rheinhessen umbrella brand wants to know, and it’s launching a region-wide “Rheinhessen Symbols Idea Contest.” We’re looking for creative ideas for characters, symbols, names, or sounds that represent Rheinhessen in a charming, surprising, and distinctive way. The existing Rheinhessen logo will remain unchanged.

Anyone with a connection to Rheinhessen can participate: individuals and families, children and teens, schools and youth groups, clubs and initiatives, creatives and agencies, companies, organizations, and public institutions. What counts most is a good idea. A professional design isn’t strictly necessary.

We’ve deliberately set few limits on creativity: we’re looking for individual symbols as well as characters, mascots, names, neologisms, short sound sequences, or entire symbolic universes. Whether humorous, charming, surprising, or unusual—what matters most is the connection to Rheinhessen, high recognizability, and the potential to make the region visible and tangible in new ways.

It’s worth participating: Four prizes will be awarded:

§ Jury Prize – 2,500 euros

§ HWK Young Talent Award for the Skilled Trades – 1,000 euros

§ Business Prize from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK)—1,000 euros

§ Volksbank Darmstadt Mainz: Associations’ Prize – 1,000 euros

The competition is held under the patronage of Mayors Nino Haase and Adolf Kessel, as well as District Administrators Thomas Barth and Heiko Sippel. This is about more than just finding a new symbol: The competition invites everyone to reflect together on what defines Rheinhessen, what connects people to their region, and how this way of life can be creatively captured.

So: What do you consider to be typical of Rheinhessen? We’re eager to hear your ideas!

The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2026. The jury’s evaluation and the awards ceremony will take place in January 2027.
