The Heinefetter sisters
Since May 4, 2016, a previously nameless square right next to the Staatstheater Mainz has been known as Geschwister-Heinefetter-Platz. The word "siblings" refers to six sisters from the large Heinefetter family in Mainz - a family whose lives were almost exclusively determined by music.
The Heinefetter sisters - grand opera from Mainz
The singing Heinefetter sisters from Mainz were undoubtedly among the leading stage artists of the 19th century and were celebrated stars on European opera stages. Sabine, Clara, and Kathinka
Heinefetter achieved the greatest fame, while Eva, Fatima-Genoveva, and Nanette were less prominent. However, they all shaped opera and audience tastes across Europe in their own way until the second half of the 19th century. They also left their artistic mark on their hometown of Mainz.
Brochure
For anyone interested, the Women's Office has now published a brochure about the six sisters, which is available from the Women's Office. It is also available online.
