Daycare warning strike
Warning strike in municipal daycare centers: 29 closed, 23 open
(Mainz, April 25, 2016) - As previously announced, the ver.di union has called on employees at municipal daycare centers to take part in a full-day warning strike on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.
At the end of last week, the Daycare Centers Department of the Mainz City Administration's Office for Youth and Family Affairs sent a letter to all parents whose children are cared for in a municipal daycare center, informing them that a warning strike was imminent and that they might need to organize alternative care for their children, and that they would receive another letter with more detailed information today.
According to a recent survey by the Daycare Centers Department, a large proportion of employees in municipal daycare centers will take part in the warning strike. As a result, 29 municipal daycare centers will be closed, while 23 municipal daycare centers will remain open. No emergency service will be provided.
In another letter to parents, the Daycare Centers Department has today informed all parents whose children are cared for in a daycare center that is closed due to the warning strike: "We know that this is a great burden for you as parents. Nevertheless, we ask you to organize alternative childcare for your child. The management of your daycare center will be happy to assist you in this and, for example, put you in touch with other parents."
