The purpose of the association is to promote relations between the twin towns of Watford and Mainz in all areas of social life on a non-profit basis, to constantly revitalize these relations, and to work in the spirit of German-English friendship. Furthermore, it aims to promote international understanding and tolerance in all areas of culture, history, and the idea of international understanding.

Its members strive to support the friendship circle in every way possible and to contribute personally within the scope of their abilities. The association's funds may only be used for purposes in accordance with its statutes. The friendship circle is politically and religiously neutral.
