Johanniskantorei - Choir of the Protestant St. Johannis Church

Purpose of the association

The Johanniskantorei is a church choir of approximately 50 singers. Interest, love, enthusiasm, and commitment to church music, as well as careful preparation of the choir's repertoire, form the basis of our choir work and are prerequisites for participation in our choir. Rehearsals take place once a week. A small chamber choir rehearses on a project basis. Individual voice rehearsals are possible by arrangement.

The choir's tasks range from providing musical accompaniment for services at St. Johannis and in the Josefskapelle, participating in events organized by the Protestant deanery, to large concerts and oratorio performances that attract attention far beyond the borders of Mainz. Another focus of our choir is the highly successful preparation and performance of a cappella works, with a particular emphasis on the repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries.
