Friends of the Leibniz Center for Archaeology (LEIZA) e.V.
Purpose of the association
The Friends of the Leibniz Center for Archaeology (LEIZA) e.V. was founded with the aim of providing long-term support for the work of the research museum.
The Friends promote the activities of LEIZA. The aim is to support the research museum in communicating scientific findings to the public and raising awareness of archaeology and history. The events offered by the Friends' Association are intended to contribute to this. In addition, the association's funds are used to finance research at LEIZA – most recently the project "Das Glas vom Gleis" (The Glass from the Track), which investigates the provenance of collection objects from Syria that may have been found during the construction of the Baghdad Railway.
Founded in 1852, the Leibniz Center for Archaeology LEIZA is one of the most renowned research centers for archaeology. Its staff deal with topics ranging from the Stone Age 3 million years ago to the Middle Ages, from West Africa to China. The focus is on the cultures of the Old World. As a research institution of supraregional importance and national scientific interest, it has been one of the research museums of the Leibniz Association since 2002.
