Since 1993, Gegen Vergessen – Für Demokratie e.V. (Against Forgetting – For Democracy) has been combining historical remembrance work with concrete efforts to promote democracy.

More than 2,000 members in 36 regional working groups organize almost 400 events every year. In many regions of Germany, we offer lectures, panel discussions, talks with contemporary witnesses, film screenings, exhibitions, concerts, trips to memorial sites, and school projects.

The office also offers advice on dealing with right-wing extremism and supports educators in historical and political education. The board brings ideas and demands to the political arena.

Topics include the examination of

• National Socialist crimes
• the injustices of the SED regime, and
• various forms of political extremism.

The association participates in debates on a common European identity and culture of remembrance and promotes social engagement and political participation.
