Christmas City Mainz

Christmas Market: November 25th till December 23rd, 2021
Sun till Thu 11 a.m. - 8.30 p.m., Fri und Sat 11 a.m.- 9 p.m.

The historical Christmas Market in Mainz creates a magical atmosphere with its 100 lovingly decorated and illuminated stands. For pandemic reasons, the Christmas Market 2021 will take place with a 2G regulation.

  • The Mainz Christmas Market and the "WinterZeit" markets will take place with 2G regulation!

For pandemic reasons, the Christmas Market 2021 will take place with a 2G regulation. Anyone who is fully vaccinated or recovered and can provide proof of this will receive a wrist band.
Without such a wristband, it will not be possible to buy anything at the market stands or to purchase food and drinks.
There will be five distribution points for the wristbands around the Christmas market area (Rebstockplatz, Liebfrauenplatz, Alte Universität, Franziskanerstraße, Schillerplatz). In addition, wristbands will be issued by the employees of the market administration, the security staff and at the stalls after proof has been provided.

In queuing situations and when a distance of 1.5m cannot be guaranteed, masks are compulsory.

Security personnel, the municipal enforcement service and the market administration will check whether visitors have a wristband. Fines will be levied: 50 € for a mask violation and 150 € for a violation of the 2G-regulation.

Important: The regulations apply to the Christmas market area around the cathedral and to all four "WinterZeit" markets.

Furthermore, the large Christmas market will be spatially separated: The stands at the Höfchen as well as on Markt and Liebfrauenplatz will be more equalized and extended into the pedestrian zone.

Some of the merchants\\' stands will be located in Ludwigsstraße, Seppel-Glückert-Passage and Emmeransstraße.

As usual, you will find the romantic Christmas village at the flowerbed of Liebfrauenplatz; in 2021, however, in a different form. There you will also find the two Christmas market huts, which will be occupied by charitable stalls during the Advent weekends.

Historical ambience

Set in the historical scenery of the 1000-year old Martin's cathedral the Christmas market creates a festive atmosphere in the centre of Mainz. 100 festivly decorated stands illuminate the city.

Do not miss the eleven metres high and richly decorated Christmas pyramid at the entrance as well as the impressive hand-carved life-size crib figurines in front of the Gotthard chapel of St. Martin's cathedral.

At the lower entrance eight handcrafted angel figures go round in circles on a nine metres high musical clock.

Also take a walk through the inviting streets in the historic centre of Mainz with its nicely decorated shops and boutiques.

Christmas events

For pandemic reasons, there will be no stage program in 2021.
