"ChiK – Equal Opportunities in Child Day Care"
"ChiK – Equal Opportunities in Childcare" has established itself as an important component of childcare in the state capital of Mainz. Childcare places, known as "Belegplätze," offered as part of ChiK provide parents with childcare at the same financial conditions as in a daycare center.
What are reserved places?
By offering so-called reserved places, childminders provide a number of daycare places agreed with the Mainz city administration. In their capacity as contractors, childminders continue to work independently or on a freelance basis and pursue an educational concept for early childhood education and care. They also set their own opening hours. The childcare contracts are concluded between parents and caregivers. The Office for Youth and Family supports childminders in fulfilling their educational and care responsibilities by providing professional advice and support.
Goals of the childcare places
- To secure long-term childcare in the state capital of Mainz as an equivalent childcare option for early childhood development and education
- Improved utilization of daycare places
- Creation of childcare places without additional payments and thus financially equivalent childcare services for parents
- Longer-term use of daycare
Advantages for parents
- No additional payments by parents to the daycare provider
- Child daycare services also available to low-income families
