At around 5:00 p.m., a traffic accident involving two cars occurred on the BAB 60 motorway. A total of five people were involved in the accident, including one child. All those involved were very lucky that nothing more serious happened to them.
For reasons that are still unclear, one car crashed into another. Both cars were severely damaged. When the fire department arrived at the scene, everyone had already gotten out of the vehicles. Fortunately, reports of several people being trapped were not confirmed.
The fire department secured the extensive accident site and ensured fire protection. One car even had to be extinguished during the operation because it was in danger of catching fire. The injured persons were cared for by the fire department together with the rescue service and then transported by the latter to nearby hospitals for treatment.
To ensure the safety of the emergency services, the highway had to be completely closed for a time. This caused severe disruption to rush hour traffic. Only after the cars involved in the accident had been removed by the towing service could parts of the highway be reopened.
The heavy traffic congestion triggered the fire alarm system in the Mainz tunnel during the operation. Fortunately, this alarm turned out to be a false alarm.
In addition to the Mainz professional fire department, the highway police, the Mainz rescue services, and a Mainz towing service were also involved in the operation.
