02.05.2021 - Apartment fire with human rescue
On Sunday afternoon, the Mainz fire department rescued a woman and two dogs from a burning apartment. At around 11:30 a.m., crews from both professional fire stations and the Mainz-Drais volunteer fire department were called to an apartment fire on Gustav-Mahler-Straße.
Black smoke was billowing from an open balcony door at the scene. A team wearing self-contained breathing apparatus entered the apartment. At the same time, the turntable ladder was positioned in front of the building. The resident and two dogs were still inside the burning apartment at this point. They were brought outside by the fire department and given first aid.
The fire was quickly extinguished and the apartment was mechanically ventilated.
The resident was transported to a hospital by the emergency medical services. In addition to the fire department and emergency medical services, the police were also on site.

05.05.2021 - Body recovered from lake in Mainz-Laubenheim
Late in the evening of May 4, 2021, the Mainz Fire Department was called to assist the police in Mainz-Laubenheim. A passerby had seen a lifeless body floating in the area of the lakes along the extension of Riedweg. After an extensive search by the police and fire department, an object was located on one of the lakes approximately 20-25 meters from the shore. However, due to the darkness, it could not be identified more precisely at first.
After the arrival of the diving unit of the Mainz professional fire department and a rescue fire engine from the Mainz-Laubenheim volunteer fire department, the affected area was first illuminated. Two divers, secured by ropes, then entered the water. It was finally confirmed that the object was a human body. It was brought to the shore and from there to the nearest accessible road. No information can be provided about the identity of the person at this time. The criminal investigation department is investigating.
In addition to the Mainz fire department, the police were also on the scene with two patrol cars, as well as the criminal investigation department.

07.05.2021 - Apartment fires in Weisenau and on the Lerchenberg
The Mainz Fire Department had to respond to several calls today. These included several triggered fire alarms, several rescue operations, and two apartment fires.
The first apartment fire in Mainz-Weisenau (Laubenheimer Straße) occurred around 11:00 a.m.
A fire broke out on the balcony of an apartment on the third floor of an apartment building for unknown reasons. The fire damaged the facade of the building, as well as a window and a balcony door. No one was injured. When the fire department arrived, the apartment was only slightly smoky. Everyone had already gotten to safety. Several crews were on standby with breathing apparatus. However, only one team from the Mainz-Weisenau volunteer fire department, which was the first to arrive, was deployed. The fire was extinguished within a short time using a C-pipe, preventing it from spreading to the apartment and the roof. The stairwell and the "fire apartment" were cleared of smoke with the help of a motorized fan and were immediately habitable again.
Four vehicles with 16 members of the professional fire department and two vehicles with 12 members of the volunteer fire department were deployed for this operation.
In addition to the fire department, an ambulance was also on site (but not deployed) and the police, who began investigating the cause of the fire.
The second apartment fire on Lerchenberg (Brahmsweg) began at 4:40 p.m. and required a large number of emergency service vehicles.
A changing table heater (radiator) had caught fire in the living room of an apartment on the ground floor of an apartment building. The reason for this is completely unclear. The fire was extinguished by the residents and their neighbors before the fire department arrived. All four people in the apartment where the fire broke out, including the two children, had also been brought outside. Here, too, most of the residents had brought themselves to safety by the time the fire department arrived and were waiting on the street.
The fire department only had to check the scene of the fire, carry the burnt object outside, and clear the smoke from the apartment with a motorized fan.
Since the family of four (including a child of elementary school age and a 5-month-old baby) were in the apartment when the fire broke out, and the neighbor came to their aid with his two daughters to rescue the children and fight the flames, a total of 10 people had to be treated by the emergency services. Seven people were transported to nearby hospitals as a precautionary measure due to suspected smoke inhalation.
The health section command was on duty with seven vehicles and approximately 20 people.
Five vehicles with 17 members of the professional fire department and two vehicles with 12 members of the volunteer fire department were deployed for this operation. In this case, too, the police have launched an investigation.

13.05.2021 - Traffic accident with several casualties on the Schierstein Bridge
Shortly before 11 a.m. today, the Mainz Fire Department was called to a traffic accident involving a trapped person on the Schiersteiner Bridge.
Shortly after the Mainz-Mombach exit in the direction of Wiesbaden, two cars collided. The van, which had apparently been traveling ahead, crashed into the concrete guardrail, overturned, and came to rest on its driver's side.
When the fire department arrived, the four occupants – including a child – had already been freed from the vehicle by first responders and were being cared for in an exemplary manner. The fire department first secured the accident site. At the same time, first aid was administered to the injured until the ambulance service arrived. The ambulance service transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
The closure of the right lane caused traffic disruptions in the direction of Wiesbaden, with traffic being diverted past the accident site on a single lane. The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
In addition to the fire department, the highway police were on the scene with a patrol car and the emergency services with four ambulances and an emergency doctor's vehicle.
