At around 12:15 p.m. on October 17, 2022, the Mainz fire department control center received several emergency calls reporting a traffic accident on the L425 between the districts of MZ-Hechtsheim and MZ-Ebersheim. Based on the situation described, the control center alerted emergency personnel from fire stations 1 and 2, as well as the Mainz-Ebersheim volunteer fire department and the rescue service.
An SUV, a small van, and a motorcycle were involved in the accident. The occupants of the small van were able to leave their vehicle on their own and suffered minor injuries. Rescue equipment was prepared for the driver of the SUV, who, along with the motorcyclist, was seriously injured in the accident.
Until the emergency medical services arrived, the fire department provided first aid to the patients and ensured fire protection. The SUV driver was then rescued and the emergency medical services were further assisted in their work. Due to the number of injured persons, the fire department also alerted the health section management to the scene of the accident.
The fire department cannot provide any information about the circumstances of the accident; the police have taken over the investigation into the cause of the accident.
In addition to the Mainz professional fire department and the Mainz-Ebersheim volunteer fire department, the emergency medical services with the health section commander, the police with several officers, and an expert were also on site.
