12.09.2023 - Storms over the city of Mainz and the districts of Mainz-Bingen and Alzey-Worms
At around 7:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm with heavy rain passed over the districts of Mainz-Bingen, Alzey-Worms, and the city of Mainz, resulting in a busy evening for the fire departments. The fire department control center had already been in contact with the German Weather Service (DWD) throughout the day, continuously monitoring the development and direction of the storm cells. Thanks to the early information provided by the DWD, the control center was able to increase its personnel in good time and staff the fire department operations centers in the districts.
Within an hour, there were 30 storm-related callouts in the districts and 45 in the city. In most cases, these involved flooded basements, flooded roads, and triggered fire alarms. In addition to the professional fire department, almost all of Mainz's volunteer fire departments were in action in the city. By 11:00 p.m., all storm-related operations had been completed.

15.09.2023 - Room fire in the Mainz-Hechtsheim industrial estate
For reasons that are still unclear, a fire broke out in an apartment on Robert-Koch-Straße in Mainz Hechtsheim, injuring several people. The residents were awakened by their smoke detectors at around 4:30 a.m.
The residents managed to extinguish the fire, which had started in the living room. Two residents suffered severe smoke inhalation. A total of five people were treated by the emergency services and transported to nearby hospitals. The residents were also able to rescue their two cats, which were taken by the fire department to the Mainz animal shelter for examination.
Due to the heavy smoke, the apartment is uninhabitable. The fire department checked the affected apartment for further embers using heavy breathing apparatus.
The fire department points out that attempts to extinguish the fire should only be made if you are not putting yourself in danger and risking your health.

22.09.2023 - Serious truck accident on the A643
Serious single-vehicle accident involving a heavy truck on the Schiersteiner Bridge in the early hours of the morning required the assistance of the Mainz and Wiesbaden fire departments
Early on Friday morning, a truck loaded with ready meals crashed in the Mainz-Mombach junction area.
The truck came to rest on its side near the central reservation. The driver was severely trapped in his vehicle. The passenger was rescued with minor injuries. Due to the location, the Wiesbaden fire department carried out the extensive technical rescue. A fire department crane initially requested from the Darmstadt professional fire department was canceled en route. The Mainz professional fire department inspected the bike path and the sewer system under the bridge, as it could not be ruled out that diesel fuel had entered the sewer system.
The Schierstein Bridge was completely closed until the morning at the Äppelallee junction in the direction of Mainz. The Wiesbaden and Mainz fire departments
worked together successfully across state borders.

29.09.2023 - Reported cellar fire in Mainz-Finthen
The Mainz Fire Department was called to a basement fire on Kronenstraße in Finthen at around 4 p.m. today. Residents reported smoke in the basement and the smell of burning.
When the fire department arrived, the smoke had already decreased significantly. The basement was checked, but no fire was found.
It is believed that a deflagration occurred in the boiler of the heating system. The heating had already been turned off, so the fire department did not need to take any further action beyond checking the house.
In addition to the emergency services from both stations of the professional fire department and the Finthen volunteer fire department, the rescue service and the police were also on site.
