Mainz City Fire Brigade Association
The Mainz City Fire Department Association (Stadtfeuerwehrverband Mainz e.V.) serves as the umbrella organization representing the fire departments of the city of Mainz. These include the professional fire department, the eleven volunteer fire departments along with their associated children’s and youth fire departments, four plant and industrial fire departments, as well as units from civil protection and disaster management. In addition, individual private citizens are also association members and supporting members.
Like the fire department associations, the City Fire Department Association is legally independent and not part of the Mainz city administration. Nevertheless, there has been close cooperation between the StFV and the city for years to constructively and sustainably manage the wide range of fire safety tasks.
The association’s primary task is to represent the interests of firefighters vis-à-vis policymakers and the public. Promoting volunteer work is given just as high a priority as supporting training and continuing education. The City Fire Department Association also places special emphasis on recruiting new members, providing social welfare for all firefighters, and preserving traditions within the fire service.
