Start and objectives

In recent years, numerous projects from the IEK 2015 have already been implemented, such as the redesign of Große Langgasse, Münsterplatz, and Hopfengarten, as well as the Ludwigsstraße shopping district. During this period, there were also a number of developments and social challenges that had an impact on Mainz city center and have become increasingly significant. These include, for example, climate adaptation and advancing digitalization. These and several other trends must be taken into account in the update, both with regard to the evaluation of the measures from 2015 and the development of new measures. Another basis for the update is all the relevant plans and concepts that have been drawn up in recent years. These will also be integrated into the concept. The update of the IEK city center will thus provide the framework for action for the next 10 to 15 years.
