When idling, the engine takes a long time to reach operating temperature. This means that the car's heating system does not warm up any faster and the windows do not defrost any sooner. If you want to get your windows free of ice quickly, it is best to attach a piece of cardboard or plastic film to the windshield in the evening, which can then be easily removed the next morning along with the ice.

Idling also reduces the service life of engines. The enriched fuel mixture settles on the cylinder walls and washes away the protective oil film. This causes fuel to enter the oil pan, which dilutes the lubricating oil. So if you want to do something good for your wallet, your fellow human beings, and the environment, you should refrain from this winter habit.

Special apps allow you to preheat your electric car in winter. So while you're enjoying a coffee indoors, you can comfortably preheat your electric car to a comfortable temperature. The big advantage is that since the heating in an electric car is also electrically operated, warm air comes out of the blower immediately. This also saves you from having to scrape ice off the windshield. It is best to preheat your electric car directly at a charging station or wall box to maintain full battery power. With most new electric cars, you can also use the app to plan the charging process. This allows you to ensure that your vehicle is fully charged and warm in time for your departure. At the same time, the battery is already preheated and can be used efficiently.
