Printing demonstrations on the Gutenberg press

Experience firsthand how printing was done in Johannes Gutenberg's day in a 15-minute demonstration.

Time:

Mon–Wed, Fri–Sun: every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  
Thu: Every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Location: Gutenberg Museum, 1st floor of the museum

Cost: Included in museum admission


Film screenings

Several times a day, the Gutenberg Museum shows two films about Johannes Gutenberg in its cinema.


Public museum tours

The one-hour guided tour of the Gutenberg Museum includes a demonstration on the historic printing press and shows the original Gutenberg Bibles in the vault.

The tour is conducted by tour guides from the state capital of Mainz from mainzplus CITYMARKETING (opens in a new tab).

It is necessary to register in advance for the tours.

Time

High season (May to October): Saturday, 11:45 a.m.
Low season (November to April): once a month

Cost: €12/reduced €10/children up to and including 8 years free (plus admission)

Family Saturday

The exciting children's tour "Of dancing letters and colorful leaves" for children aged 6 and up and their accompanying adult(s) is offered by a museum educator and tailored to the age of the children. As part of a printing activity, children can also try their hand at printing themselves.

Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Meeting point: 2 p.m., museum ticket office Gutenberg Shop (pavilion)

Cost: Museum admission. There is a workshop fee for the printing activity (3 euros per child).
