Small, but with a great history
The cemetery in Drais
In terms of population and area, Draiser Friedhof is the smallest of Mainz's cemeteries. However, in terms of history, the location and burial site are almost 'Goliaths'. The first traces of settlement date back to the Hallstatt period (850–450 BC). Draiser Cemetery also has a remarkable history, having been founded in the early 1870s. This is reflected in the memorial at the entrance, which commemorates not only those who fell in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71, but also the victims of both world wars.
