Sewage treatment plant

Aerial view of the central sewage treatment plant in Mombach

The Mainz district of Mombach is not only home to our company headquarters, but also to the central sewage treatment plant. An average of 45 million liters of wastewater are treated there every day in three stages (mechanical, biological, chemical) so that it can then be pumped back into the Rhine.

We work around the clock to achieve this, using state-of-the-art technology and optimal use of raw materials. This is the only way to not only comply with the legal limits, but even to fall below them.

But that's not all ...

... we naturally also pay attention to costs and the environment. We generate a large part of the energy we need ourselves. This is one of the reasons why Mainz's sewage charges are among the lowest in Germany.

And our wastewater treatment plant was the first in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, and Saarland to be awarded the EMAS EU Audit Regulation certificate. This is visible proof that "ecological" is not a foreign concept to us.

In addition, with the support of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, we are currently constructing a fourth treatment stage, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2027 – further information can be found here
