The minutes of the Mainz municipal council and the revolution of 1848/49
A source of the 1848/49 revolution has now been edited.
The revolution of 1848/49 is a pivotal event in the history of democracy in Germany. 175 years ago, Mainz was one of the centers of the democracy movement.
An important historical source for the events of this period are the minutes of the Mainz City Council, which are kept in the city archives. Students at Johannes Gutenberg University, led by Dr. Wolfgang Elz, have collaborated with the Mainz City Archives to select, transcribe, and prepare the city council minutes from 1848 and 1849 for an online edition. This makes this important source on the revolution of 1848/49 easily accessible to all interested parties and researchers.
The City Archives would like to express its sincere thanks to the authors, Lara Beringer, Wolfgang Elz, Niklas Fink, Claartje Ille, Sebastian Jakubzik, Jonas Langer, Philipp March, Rebecca Schlaadt, and Simon Seber, for their outstanding work.
The edition is now permanently linked to the database of the Mainz City Archives.
