Mainz city administration
Here you will find everything you need to know about the structure and responsibilities of the city administration of Mainz, the state capital.
The City of Mainz serves as a service provider for the residents of our city. With over 5,300 employees, it is one of the largest employers in the region. The “State Capital of Mainz” is led by the City Executive Board. The City Executive Board consists of the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, and six Deputy Mayors. Each member of the City Executive Board heads a department. Please refer to the organizational chart of the Mainz City Administration to see which departments the various offices and agencies are assigned to.
The city administration’s departments and municipal enterprises are located at three main sites:
- City Hall (currently operating from the Stadthaus Große Bleiche),
- Kaiserstrasse Stadthaus, and
- Citadel.
Fifteen local administrative offices provide citizen-oriented services in the city’s districts.

The “State Capital of Mainz” organization also includes various city-affiliated companies. You can find information on this under “City Group, Other Authorities.” The Mainz City Administration operates more than 60 daycare centers, 42 schools, and 10 children’s and youth centers.
