Civil status and civil registers of Mainz and suburbs on the left bank of the Rhine from 1798 (fonds 50)
The city archives contain municipal birth registers that are more than 110 years old, marriage registers that are more than 80 years old, and death registers that are more than 30 years old. The registers have an alphabetical index of names for each year.
More recent civil status registers are kept at the Mainz Registry Office.
In cooperation with Ancestry.de, birth registers up to 1900, marriage registers up to 1920, and death registers up to 1950 have been digitized.
For data protection reasons, the following documents can only be viewed in the reading room after prior consultation with the archive staff:

Copies from the civil status registers are not made for conservation reasons. Instead, you will receive digital photos by email. The processing fee for this is €6 plus €3 per photo. A certified extract from the registers costs €12. For written requests, a processing fee and shipping costs may be added, depending on the amount of research required.
