The church records of all parishes in Mainz up to 1798 are kept in the Mainz City Archives.

The church record card indexes are a complete index of these church records by name (arranged in phonetic alphabetical order).

For the suburbs of Mainz, there are indexes for Bretzenheim (1756-1797), Kostheim (1756-1795), Weisenau (1756-1800), Gonsenheim (1641-1801 complete), Mombach (1638-1798), Kastel (1738-1795), and Hechtsheim (1651-1798).

The index cards were digitized in cooperation with Ancestry.de.

There are also baptism and death registers from 1846 to 1848 for the English Chapel (without indexing).

The Mainz church records up to 1798 have been digitized. You can obtain a digital copy of a church record entry for a fee.

The Mainz family registers were created after 1798 and contain entries for all Mainz families from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. With alphabetical index (list of husbands' names). The entries were usually created when a couple married and later supplemented with the children's data, so that the data for a family is complete.

The Mombach and Hechtsheim family registers begin at the start of the 19th century. There are no family registers for other suburbs.

The names of families from Mainz and Mombach can be searched via a database in the user room of the city archives. The Hechtsheim family register has not yet been indexed.

The family registers have been digitized, and the older entries can be viewed without restriction in the archive reading room.

Printouts of entries in the reading room cost €4. For written requests, a processing fee of €10 and shipping costs may be added, depending on the amount of research required. If you would like to receive entries digitally by email, we charge a flat fee of €6 plus €3 per digital photo.

The city archives contain municipal birth registers that are more than 110 years old, marriage registers that are more than 80 years old, and death registers that are more than 30 years old. The registers have an alphabetical index of names for each year.

More recent civil status registers are kept at the Mainz Registry Office.

In cooperation with Ancestry.de, birth registers up to 1900, marriage registers up to 1920, and death registers up to 1950 have been digitized.

Applications for citizenship or the acceptances themselves can be found in inventory 21 for the period up to 1798, in inventory 60 for the period 1798-1814, and in inventory 70 for the period 1814/16 to approx. 1930. You can search for the names of the applicants in a database in the user room.
