In 2021, the Mainz City Archives acquired a collection of 700 glass negatives from around 1900 from an antiquarian bookshop. The photographer was Konrad Schollmayer, who came from Kostheim.

Such an extensive collection of photographs depicting Mainz and the surrounding area is a rarity. Dr. Andreas Linsenmann, lecturer at the History Department of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, conducted an initial evaluation of the images with students during the winter semester of 2022/23.

The estate and the results of the student project were presented in detail at the city archives on May 11, 2023. The link to the online exhibition can be found below.
