March 15, 2026 Rudolf Buchbinder plays Beethoven
Rudolf Buchbinder is one of the most important Beethoven interpreters of our time. Thanks to his decades of experience, his uncompromising fidelity to the work, and the interpretive clarity of his playing, it will be an experience to feel his presence in Beethoven's masterpiece. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 is a work full of lyrical depth and heroic radiance. Sibelius' "Lemminkäinen Suite" is rich in contrast and captivating – four symphonic legends drawn from Finnish mythology: with atmospheric density and orchestral sophistication, Sibelius transports us to a mysterious world of sound between heroic saga and Nordic natural forces. Under the baton of the spirited George Pehlivanian, this promises to be an evening full of emotional depth and musical intensity.
April 18, 2026 Carmina Burana
O Fortuna! "Everything I have written so far and which you have unfortunately printed can now be pulped! Carmina Burana marks the beginning of my collected works!" Orff wrote to his publisher after the premiere in 1937. Did he already suspect at that time that his work would become one of the most popular pieces of serious music? In addition to approximately 20 performances per month worldwide, his cantata has been featured in an incredible 90 film soundtracks—his Carmina Burana, set to music from a medieval manuscript from the Benedictbeuern monastery. The evening opens with the Polovtsian Dances and the spirited ode to the Portuguese-Brazilian singer Carmen Miranda.
