Commemoration at the St. Christoph memorial

Thursday, February 27, 2026, marked the 81st anniversary of the bombing of Mainz, in which more than 1,200 Mainz residents lost their lives in 1945.

Mayor Nino Haase will commemorate all victims of that day and the preceding war events by laying a wreath at the St. Christoph memorial during a memorial service.

This will be followed by a joint prayer for peace in the chapel of St. Christoph.

From 4:30 p.m. to 4:46 p.m., the churches in the city center will commemorate the start and duration of the bombing with a ringing of bells throughout the city.

At 5:00 p.m., the Old Town Local Council will also lay a wreath at the memorial plaque commemorating the destruction of Mainz's Old Town. It is located on Emmeranstraße, next to the "Am Kronberger Hof" parking garage.

All citizens are cordially invited to participate in all commemorative events.
