Binger Straße - expansion of the streetcar network

The project

The "Binger Straße" expansion project will create a new tram connection from Alicenplatz to Münsterplatz and relieve pressure on the main station as a public transport hub. In addition, the foundations for future expansion projects will be laid. The construction work will involve laying pipes and ducts, building the tram line, and resurfacing the asphalt. The stops will also be made barrier-free to improve comfort and accessibility for all.

Timing and traffic routing

Construction work will begin on June 25, 2024, and is expected to end in May 2026. Traffic heading out of town will be able to pass the construction site on a single lane. Traffic heading into town will be diverted via Parcusstraße, Gärtnergasse, and Große Bleiche. The parking garage on Schillerstraße can be accessed via Kleine Langgasse. Bicycle traffic will be diverted depending on the progress of construction. Public transport will serve the stops on Binger Straße via Bahnhofsstraße to Münsterplatz. Diversions will be signposted and announced in good time on information boards.
