Mayor Nino Haase emphasized the importance of the project: “The expansion of IGS Europa sends a strong signal about the future of our city. With an investment of around 15 million euros, we are making a targeted investment in Mainz as a center of education and creating modern learning spaces for our students. We are also setting new standards here with high-quality, fully customized modular construction—and we’re doing it in record time, from contract award to topping-out ceremony in just a few months. This is how we will work together with the entire city council to strengthen our educational hub and accelerate school construction in the future.”

Modern construction for future-proof learning spaces

The extension will be constructed using a modular design, ensuring rapid completion while maintaining consistently high quality. The client is the State Capital of Mainz, and construction is being carried out by ALHO Systembau GmbH. For more than 55 years, ALHO has been offering tailor-made solutions for various applications, including educational institutions, office buildings, and healthcare facilities.

A modern, four-story building covering an area of approximately 3,860 m² is being constructed, providing space for about 300 students. Construction began in early 2026, with completion scheduled for summer 2026.

Ludwig Holle, Head of the Building Department, explained the advantages of modular construction: “The rapid and efficient implementation of this project is an example of the flexibility and sustainability of modular construction methods. With this approach, we can promptly meet the growing demand for school space here without compromising on quality.”
