Bomb Found in Hartenberg-Münchfeld (Fritz-Bockius-Straße) - 1st Follow-up Report
The area within approximately 250 meters of the site where the bomb was found must be evacuated by 8 a.m. on Wednesday. It is not yet clear how long the defusing process will take, given the condition of the bomb.
Following the discovery of a 250-kg World War II bomb at the end of Fritz-Bockius-Straße, the Mainz Fire Department’s command staff began operations at 3:30 p.m. and coordinated with numerous other agencies and organizations involved. To facilitate the evacuation, loudspeaker announcements were made in the evacuation zone until the evening, flyers were distributed, alerts were sent via warning apps, multilingual information was posted on social media, and a special webpage was launched at www.mainz.de.
The area within approximately 250 meters of the discovery site must be evacuated by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Due to the condition of the bomb, it is not yet clear how long the defusing process will take.
On Wednesday, approximately 280 personnel from the fire department and disaster response teams will be on duty to monitor the situation, provide assistance, and carry out the evacuation. In addition, numerous city and police personnel will support the operation.

A mobile press center will be set up starting at 7:30 a.m. next to the entrance to the King Park Center (at the beginning of Fritz-Bockius-Straße). There, you will find ongoing updates on the situation, on-the-spot interviews, and the opportunity to accompany personnel as they secure the restricted area.
