At the invitation of Mayor Nino Haase, the community center in Finthen was filled on October 26, 2026, with numerous interested residents who gathered to discuss the revitalization and possible redesign of Finthen’s town center.

At six tables and display boards, participants brainstormed and discussed spatial topics such as “Old School,” “Old Cemetery,” and “Jungenfeldstraße Parking Lot.” In addition, overarching spatial themes were addressed, focusing on traffic and parking, green spaces and open areas, and the community.

The evening, moderated by the firm team ewen, began with a “conversation with the mayor.” Mayor Nino Haase answered questions about the budget and examples of implementation, as well as the importance, seriousness, and specific objectives of such neighborhood-based citizen participation initiatives. The dialogue was rounded out by the participation and insights of the local council chairman, Mr. Manfred Mahle. He emphasized the citizen-centered collaboration, the opportunities to spur further development of the town center, and the anticipation surrounding the results of this open-concept approach.

Overall, the residents of Finth described the evening as a success. What mattered most to them was transparency and openness regarding the possibilities, as well as a clear articulation of the scope and limits. After this initial brainstorming session at the tables, many are eager to see how things will proceed, which ideas and suggestions received the most sticky notes, and which measures will ultimately be prioritized.

We still need a little patience, because… 

…we’ll continue on Monday, February 22, 2027, with a workshop on the topics and ideas submitted so far by the residents of Finthen. This workshop will also take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the “Saal der Lebensfreude” at the Mainz-Finthen Community Center.
