Mobility survey 2023: Planning parameters and performance review

All results of the current Mobility Survey 2023 are available in a comprehensive final report. A condensed overview of the key results is summarized in a separate short report.

Following on from 2016 and 2019, the transport administration has once again commissioned a comprehensive study into the weekday transport behavior of Mainz residents in 2023. Transport experts will use this to derive important parameters for planning the transition to sustainable transport. The findings will also be used to evaluate the extent to which the transport behavior of Mainz's resident population already meets the goals of sustainable and climate-resilient mobility.
For the first time, the scope of the survey was designed in such a way that representative statements on mobility behavior can also be made on the basis of the individual districts of Mainz.

Positive trend to continue in 2023

Greenhouse gases, climate emergency, and reclaiming public spaces are some of the buzzwords that are also being discussed intensively in Mainz in the wake of the mobility transition. In terms of mobility behavior, the aim is therefore to further increase the share of so-called "eco-friendly" modes of transport (walking, cycling, bus, and train). The current survey shows that Mainz residents have been able to continue this positive trend in their choice of transport for their daily commutes in 2023.
