Female genital mutilation
Since January 2018, female genital mutilation has been on the activity log of institutions of the Mainz Working Group on Violence against Women and Children.
The topic was raised at the beginning of 2018 at a specialist event on female genital mutilation. Since then, it has been on the list of topics addressed by the AK Gewalt specialist group on refugees.
Network
In Mainz, we already have good medical care services for women who have undergone genital mutilation. However, considerations on how to protect girls from these communities from genital mutilation are still in their infancy.
The Mainz Genital Mutilation Network, which brings together institutions from the AK Gewalt (Violence Working Group), doctors and midwives from the Women's Clinic and the Poverty & Health Association, as well as representatives from professional associations in gynecology and pediatric and adolescent medicine, should help in this regard.
Flyer Female genital mutilation
The network published its first product at the end of July: a flyer on female genital mutilation. It contains information and addresses for doctors, midwives, and professionals working with refugees in Mainz.
Flyer circumcision. Information and help
Written in simple language so that women with limited German language skills can understand it, the leaflet provides information to affected women and their communities.
