In order to obtain a fishing license in Rhineland-Palatinate, you must live in Rhineland-Palatinate, complete a preparatory seminar and pass the state fishing examination.

If you would like to obtain a fishing license in Rhineland-Palatinate, you must have your primary residence in Rhineland-Palatinate or Mainz, have completed a preparatory seminar, and then have passed the state fishing exam before the examination board.

You must submit the application documents to the lower fisheries authority at least 4 weeks before the exam date.
The fishing license is issued by the regulatory authority of your main place of residence.

We issue the fishing license for 1 calendar year (annual fishing license) or for 5 consecutive calendar years (five-year fishing license) upon presentation of the state examination certificate. Extensions are only possible for fishing licenses issued in Rhineland-Palatinate. If your previous fishing license was issued in another federal state, it cannot be extended. In this case, you must apply for an initial license.
To fish in the Rhine on the Rhineland-Palatinate side, you also need a fishing permit. The permit ("fishing license") is issued by Angelgeräte Bode in Heidesheim.

Requirements for admission to the exam:
be at least 13 years of age
Fully completed application for admission to the fishing exam
Written proof of participation in the preparatory course
Written proof of completion of the practical training day
Payment of the exam fee of 50 euros (40 euros upon presentation of proof for schoolchildren, trainees, students, those performing youth voluntary service, people with disabilities, recipients of benefits under the Second, Third, or Twelfth Book of the Social Code or the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act)
After receiving the application documents, the lower fisheries authority will send you a fee notice for the examination fee.

Weapons, hunting, and explosives law:
Every permit in the area of weapons, hunting, or explosives law requires prior processing, including a background check. Therefore, a corresponding written application must always be submitted first (by dropping it off at the city office, email, fax, or post).
