Property Drainage System
As a general rule, the discharge of wastewater into the public sewer system, as well as the construction and modification of facilities for the disposal and pretreatment of wastewater from a property (property drainage system), are subject to approval and must be applied for accordingly with the Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz.
Exemption from the Approval Requirement
Residential buildings and buildings used for office or administrative purposes are exempt from the permit requirement.
In these cases, a simple notification is sufficient prior to the start of the work, which must include a site plan of the property to be connected (extract from the municipal sewer plan).
You can easily and free of charge access the excerpt from the municipal sewer map online on the Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz website. You will find the corresponding link at the bottom of the page.
The search area covers the city of Mainz and the municipality of Bodenheim.
You must supplement this site plan by marking existing or planned structures and the sewer connection line, including the pipe’s nominal diameter.
Connection to and use of the municipal sewage system is regulated by the drainage regulations of the state capital Mainz dated September 26, 1991 (including the amendments dated March 24, 1993, November 5, 1997, and December 20, 1999).
We can issue a drainage permit within approximately four weeks of receiving a complete drainage application, provided that a building permit or building permit exemption has been obtained from the building control authority.
