Pedestrian traffic check
Brief description
The state capital of Mainz is one of ten municipalities that received funding from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 2025 for a "pedestrian traffic check." Citizens, politicians, and city administrators came together to discuss the local pedestrian traffic situation. The project began with a kick-off workshop, where the project schedule was presented. The event also determined which streets and paths should be reviewed. This was followed by two site visits, during which weak points were discussed and initial ideas for solutions were developed where necessary. On this basis, proposals for promoting pedestrian traffic were developed and presented and discussed at a final workshop. The area under investigation was Mainz's Neustadt district.
Citizen participation
- The kick-off workshop took place on June 24, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the neighborhood rooms of the Neustadt/Goetheschule (Scheffelstr. 2, (entrance on Leibnizstraße) 55118 Mainz).
- This was followed by the first inspection on July 1, 2025.
- The second inspection took place on September 18, 2025.
- The final workshop took place on October 28, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
