"Wasserwerkswiese" playground - equipping with new play equipment
Brief description
In the winter of 2023–2024, several pieces of playground equipment were removed from the "Wasserwerkswiese" playground because they were outdated. This freed up space for the installation of new playground equipment. In addition, a new calisthenics area is planned.
Citizen participation
During two on-site community meetings, the playground equipment and the equipment for the calisthenics area were selected together. All children, teenagers, and residents living in the immediate vicinity of the playground were invited to participate. The event was promoted at nearby daycare centers, schools, and youth centers.

Planned planning and implementation period
- The first public consultation meeting took place on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
- The second public consultation meeting took place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
- The new playground equipment was installed in the spring of 2025.
- Due to the budgetary situation of the state capital of Mainz, the installation of the calisthenics equipment had to be postponed. The equipment will be installed in the spring of 2026.
Expected costs
A total of €70,000 is available for the purchase of new playground equipment under the "Child-Friendly Mainz" budget item of the Office for Youth and Family Affairs. The Office for Parks and Environment has allocated €69,000 for the calisthenics facility.
Current processing status (February 20, 2026)
The new playground equipment was installed in the spring of 2025. The equipment for the calisthenics area will be installed in the spring of 2026.
