Mainz State Theater
Concerts, drama, opera, dance, young stage - a place of encounter and culture for all age groups, this is the variety offered by the Staatstheater Mainz.
The Mainz State Theater is located in the city center—a location that shapes the theater not only geographically but also in terms of content: The State Theater is at the heart of society, an important part of the city, a central place for exchange and encounters, and above all, close to the people and the issues that move them.
The venues
The Mainz State Theater offers theater stages of various sizes for a wide range of formats. At Gutenbergplatz, performances are held in the Great Hall (built between 1829 and 1833) and the Glass House high up under the roof. Next door at Tritonplatz is the Kleine Haus, built in 1997, and since 2014, the Studiobühne U17 deep underground. Since 2021, the Kakadu Bar has also been part of the theater as a new, small venue. In addition, the State Theater regularly performs in a wide variety of venues throughout the city.
Musical theater, drama, tanzmainz, concerts, and the young state theater justmainz offer a diverse program for all age groups.
Constant curiosity and a keen interest in exchange characterize the work of the Mainz State Theater and are reflected, among other things, in close contacts with the independent theater scene and in the organization of the inclusive festival Grenzenlos Kultur (Borderless Culture) and the tanzmainz festival, to which national and international, independent and institutional groups and ensembles are invited.
