Fortress route and Roman route
"Mens sana in corpore sano" – the ancient Romans knew this well. With the "Roman Route," you can cycle and hike through Mainz in the fascinating footsteps of the Romans, discovering victory columns, ingenious water systems, and mysterious places of worship. The Roman Route is around 13.5 km long and passes 19 stations.
The fortress dominates the cityscape of Mainz and invites you to "conquer" it – whether you prefer hiking or cycling. The "Fortress Route" brochure takes you on a 21 km journey through Mainz city center and the neighboring districts to Kastel. Along the way, you can discover the towers and gates, bastions, and casemates of Mainz Fortress. The 20 stations tell the varied history of the state capital Mainz.
