Nordmann fir
The Nordmann fir is an evergreen tree that stands out due to its strong, conical growth. While its growth is very slow in its youth, it later grows rapidly in height. The fir is often used as a park tree and in cemeteries.
- Origin: Caucasus
- Height: 25-30 meters
- Needles: very shiny dark green; silver-white underneath; up to 3 cm long
- Flower/fruit: cones only fall after 15-20 years
- Soil/location: fresh, deep soils; does not tolerate drought and prolonged heat well
- Special feature: The Nordmann fir is very common in the Caucasus. Alongside the Caucasian spruce, it is the forest-forming tree there and thus shapes the landscape of this region. In our latitudes, the fir has earned a reputation as THE Christmas tree par excellence in recent decades.
