Spatial structure
The small-area classification (KRG) divides the entire Mainz city area into statistically analyzable, spatially delimited territorial units. It represents the statistical spatial reference system of the city of Mainz.
Each address is assigned to all types of statistical areas in the small-scale structure – from building blocks to statistical districts to statistical city districts.
Originally designed for conducting nationwide censuses, the small-scale classification is continuously updated by the statistics office. In the 1980s, it was completely digitized in GIS.
The KRG also serves as the basis for all other inner-city area divisions, such as electoral districts for elections, school districts, and research and planning areas.
