Therapy subgroup
The Women's Office is part of the Therapy subgroup. Its program includes supporting women in their search for therapy places and providing further training for therapists.
Therapy can help people process experiences of violence. It provides stability and can contribute to finding a solution to a violent relationship. This makes therapy an important pillar in protecting women and children from violence.
However, the already enormous waiting times for a therapy place have increased to up to a year in recent months. The function of therapy for the protection of women against violence, which is also enshrined in the Istanbul Convention, is thus no longer fulfilled.
Increasing the number of therapists approved by health insurance companies and increasing the number of places available is therefore one of the objectives of the UG Therapy. The program also includes supporting women in finding therapy places and training therapists (and psychosocial counseling professionals) in (sexualized) violence, protection against violence, and crisis intervention.
The group's final major area of action is the development of alternative support services for those affected. Its primary focus is on setting up therapeutically accompanied group services or group services led by qualified specialists from local specialist centers and financed by health insurance companies. To this end, the group will seek dialogue with psychotherapy committees, health insurance companies, and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in the next step.
The flyers "(Sexualized) Violence Against Women—Therapy and Expert Counseling in Mainz" and "(Sexualized) Violence Against Girls—How Do I Find a Therapy Place?" have already been completed.
Members of the therapy subgroup are the Women's Office; Women's Shelter; Intervention Center; Mainz Girls' House; SOLWODI; Social Services Department, Community Psychiatry.
