You can also submit an application if you have to purchase your own heating fuel (e.g., oil, coal, wood, briquettes).
Applications are available from various locations:
- For persons who have reached the statutory retirement age or receive an old-age pension, or who are permanently or temporarily incapacitated for work, at the Social Services Office
- For persons who are able to work, at the Mainz Job Center
You already receive benefits under SGB XII from the Social Welfare Office or benefits under SGB II from the Mainz Job Center.
If you do not receive any of these benefits but have a low income, you can also apply for the additional payments from the utility and heating bills to be covered.
If you receive annual utility and heating bills:
Persons who receive ongoing benefits under SGB XII/SGB II:
The necessary expenses for heating are covered by the Social Services Office or the Mainz Job Center through the ongoing monthly payments. It is therefore not necessary to apply separately for a heating allowance.
Persons who do not receive ongoing benefits under SGB XII/SGB II:
If you are unable to pay the annual bills due to low income, you can apply for assistance. However, these benefits are income-dependent.
If you purchase and store fuel yourself:

You can apply for heating cost assistance for the annual purchase of these fuels. It is advisable to submit this application in good time before the start of the heating period (October).
Persons who do not receive ongoing benefits under SGB XII/SGB II:

If you purchase and store your own fuel, please submit your application for reimbursement in good time.
Once the heating season has begun (October), we can only pay out the subsidy on a pro rata basis.
Please submit your application for reimbursement of your additional and heating costs promptly after receiving your bill.
