You may not block parking spaces, e.g., for loading and unloading a furniture van when moving house, without authorization. This requires a permit from the road traffic authority to set up a temporary no-stopping zone.

If you would like to set up a no-stopping zone in connection with a construction site/construction work, please use the service "Apply for construction work or construction site on public roads."

Application by businesses/companies/private individuals: 

• at the road traffic authority
• In person by appointment only
• in writing by mail, email, or fax (by sending an informal application)
• At least 3 weeks in advance, as the no-stopping zone must be set up 5 full days before the move

The permit is issued by the road traffic authority.

Please note that you must organize the no-stopping signs yourself, as these are not set up by the state capital of Mainz.

The traffic signs must be set up and monitored by a person with the necessary expertise in traffic safety at road worksites.

This requires MVAS certification (= proof of the necessary expertise in traffic safety at road worksites).

Persons without this certificate are not permitted to set up signs and barriers in public traffic areas. To do so, you must contact a traffic safety company.

A written request should include the following (also possible by email):

• Period of closure (date and time)
• Street where the no-stopping zone is to be established
• Length of the no-stopping zone (number of parking spaces)
• Address and telephone number of the applicant
• Name and address of the person responsible for traffic safety, including telephone number and MVAS certification
