Minigolf: 1st MGC Mainz
With just under 120 members, the 1st Mainz Minigolf Club (1. MGC Mainz) is one of the largest clubs in the German Minigolf Association, which is the umbrella organization of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
The club was founded back in 1964. After more than ten years in Mainz's Volkspark, the club decided to build its own mini golf course. After a long planning period and with tremendous commitment from its members, the course was built in Mainz's Hartenbergpark under the leadership of Hans Pertgen (former president and honorary chairman) and Karl Heinz Franko (then press officer, now honorary chairman).
Since October 19, 1975, the MGC has been operating this club-owned mini golf course, which is considered by mini golf fans to be one of the most beautifully located and interesting courses. In May 1996, the MGC expanded its grounds to include a second competition facility. In addition to the 18 concrete courses, there are now 18 Eternit courses (with lighting) available, so that all competitions, from the Rhineland-Palatinate State Performance Center to the World Championships, can be held here.
