Green hanging beech
Older specimens of the green hornbeam are particularly striking for their unique beauty. The tree, which can grow up to 30 meters tall, looks especially picturesque with its arched, overhanging side branches and hanging side branches. - Height: 18–30 meters
- Leaves: broad ovate; 8–12 cm long; usually double-serrated; dark green; bright yellow autumn color
- Flower: before leaf budding in February; yellow catkins up to 12 cm long; bee pasture
- Fruit: edible nuts in dense clusters
- Soil/location: very undemanding, loves sunny locations
- Special feature: Older specimens in exposed, free-standing locations are prone to sunburn, as the strong branches overhanging the top are not protected by the foliage.
