Detailed information on the airport expansion is provided by the Municipal Working Group Future Rhine-Main (KAGZRM), an association currently comprising 32 municipalities, four counties, the Alliance of Citizens' Initiatives (BBI), and the BUND regional association of Hesse. The state capital of Mainz is a co-founder of the municipal initiative Future Rhine-Main.

Fraport AG conducted aircraft noise measurements using a mobile measuring system in Mainz-Lerchenberg (ZDF premises) from April 20 to July 10, 2012, in order to obtain information about the change in aircraft noise pollution resulting from the commissioning of the northwest runway. Fraport has been operating a measuring station in the Mainz city area since 2015. The results can be viewed under the link "Measuring station in the Mainz city area – Fraport."

Since 2008, the city of Mainz has been operating an aircraft noise monitoring station on the roof of the municipal data center on Hechtsheimer Straße.

The measurements are retrieved by the German Aircraft Noise Service (Deutscher Fluglärmdienst e.V.) and posted on its website under the name of the measuring station "Mainz-Oberstadt***." The three stars after the name of the measuring station indicate that it is a high-quality measuring station with a sound level monitor of accuracy class 1.

The measuring station of the city of Mainz is thus part of the aircraft noise measurement network maintained and published by the German Aircraft Noise Service (Deutscher Fluglärmdienst e. V.). This provides a dense aircraft noise measurement network in the Rhine-Main area that is transparent and accessible to everyone on the Internet. In Mainz
alone, there are currently over ten aircraft noise measuring stations. The operators include private individuals, citizens' initiatives, private initiatives, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and the state capital Mainz.

The Hessian non-profit organization Gemeinnütziges Umwelthaus GmbH also operates aircraft noise monitoring stations in the Mainz city area.
